“People tend to say, ‘I
am the best judge of myself, I know what is right and wrong for me better than
anyone else.’ But is that true? The fact is, no matter how hard and sincerely
you try, you have many faults, shortcomings and wrong-doings which you cannot
even detect, much less overcome. Then, what should you do?
Think of the would-be golfer or artist or musician.
What does he do when he wishes to develop his potentialities?
Naturally he seeks the advice and assistance of a coach or teacher.
Well, then, just so you too must be mature and frank enough to
listen to great teachers of religion if you are truly interested in
a better life for yourself and your loved ones. Material wealth
does not assure you happiness any more than an expensive set
of golf clubs is a guarantee to play a good game.
Likewise, knowledge alone is insufficient to find the answers to
the inquiries of man.
The PL religion teaches you the correct mental attitude in
accordance with the Divine Universal Scheme. In other words,
we guide each individual personally, according to his environment
and character so that he can live a full, happy and unique life and
be in perfect harmony with the rules of the universe. Life is Art.”
From the book, “The
Power of Perfect Liberty,” pages 34-35 as quoted from PL’s Second Founder
(Kyoso), Tokuchika Miki (picture below).
PL shows you how to use prayer, along with your human effort as a powerful tool in overcoming problems and expanding your human capabilities.

WHAT DOES PL TEACH US?
In PL we learn that "Life is art." We have been born to express our own unique individuality in everything we do - to create "art". PL helps us to live life as "art" so that we can achieve our full human potential and lead enjoyable lives.
To assist us in improving our lives and overcoming hardships such as sickness, misfortune, pain, etc., we are taught why we have these problems and we are guided in solving them.
PL does not have a holy book (like a Bible or a Koran). What we do have, however, are the PL 21 Precepts and the PL 21 Principles which were revealed by divine inspiration to the Founders of the Church.
PL TWENTY-ONE PRECEPTS:
